A Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) is an advanced wastewater treatment technology that combines conventional biological treatment processes (activated sludge) with membrane filtration. In this system, microorganisms break down organic pollutants, and the membrane units (microfiltration or ultrafiltration) act as a physical barrier to separate treated water from suspended solids, bacteria, and other contaminants.

Unlike traditional treatment methods that require a secondary clarifier, the MBR system achieves solid-liquid separation directly through the membrane, producing high-quality effluent suitable for reuse applications such as irrigation, industrial processes, or even potable water after further treatment. MBRs are widely used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants due to their compact design, high efficiency, and ability to meet stringent discharge standards.

High Quality Effluent

Produces crystal-clear, pathogen-free water that meets stringent discharge and reuse standards.

Compact & Space-Saving Design

Eliminates the need for secondary clarifiers and tertiary filtration, reducing plant footprint.

Effective Solid-Liquid Separation

Membranes (microfiltration or ultrafiltration) act as a barrier, ensuring no suspended solids escape.

High Biomass Concentration

Allows higher sludge retention time (SRT), enhancing biological treatment efficiency.

Enhanced Nutrient Removal

Capable of removing nitrogen, phosphorus, and other nutrients effectively.

Reduce Sludge Production

Longer sludge age results in less excess sludge compared to conventional systems

Operational Flexibility

Can handle fluctuating loads and varying wastewater characteristics.

Automation & Easy Monitoring

Equipped with advanced controls for membrane cleaning, backwashing, and performance monitoring.

Water Reuse Capability

Treated water can be reused for irrigation, industrial processes, or further polished for potable use.

Durability & Reliability

Membranes have a long lifespan when properly maintained, ensuring consistent performance.
