Screw Screen in Meghalaya

A Screw Screen is a mechanical wastewater screening device used in sewage treatment plants, industrial effluent treatment plants, and other water treatment facilities. It is designed to remove coarse and fine solid particles from wastewater by combining screening, conveying, compacting, and dewatering functions in one unit.
The screen consists of a perforated or wedge wire screen section through which water passes while solids are retained. A slowly rotating screw conveyor (auger) continuously lifts the retained solids from the screening zone, transports them upwards, and then compacts and dewaters them before discharge. This prevents clogging, reduces waste volume, and minimizes manual handling.
Screw Screens are highly efficient, require low maintenance, and are often installed at the inlet of treatment plants to protect downstream equipment like pumps, pipelines, and biological systems.
Properties of a Screw Screen:-
- Automatic Screening & Conveying – Captures solids from wastewater and conveys them upward with a screw mechanism, minimizing manual intervention.
- Integrated Compaction & Dewatering – Reduces the volume and water content of screenings before discharge, lowering disposal costs.
- Continuous Operation – Designed for uninterrupted 24/7 use with low wear and tear.
- Clog-Resistant Design – Spiral screw and self-cleaning screen prevent blockages and reduce maintenance.
- Space-Saving Unit – Combines screening, conveying, and compacting in one compact system.
- Customizable Screen Openings – Available with perforated plate or wedge wire screens (typically 0.25 mm to 6 mm) for fine or coarse screening.
- Durable Construction – Built from stainless steel (SS 304/316) for corrosion resistance and long service life.
- Energy Efficient – Low power consumption due to slow-speed screw rotation.
- Protects Downstream Equipment – Prevents damage or clogging in pumps, pipelines, and biological treatment units.
- Low Maintenance – Few moving parts and self-cleaning operation minimize upkeep.
- User-Friendly Operation – Can be automated and integrated with plant control systems.
