A Disk Filter is a high-efficiency filtration device widely used in water and wastewater treatment, irrigation systems, and industrial processes. It consists of multiple thin, grooved plastic discs stacked together on a central core. When compressed, the discs form a series of intricate filtration pathways that trap suspended solids, organic matter, and fine particles. Water flows through these grooves, and impurities are retained on the surface and within the depth of the disc stack, providing both surface and depth filtration.

Disk filters are especially effective for handling water with high levels of organic matter, algae, or fine silt. They are compact, durable, easy to clean, and often come with manual, semi-automatic, or automatic backwashing systems, which extend their lifespan and reduce maintenance needs.

Properties:-

  • High Filtration Efficiency – Provides both surface and depth filtration through fine grooves on the discs, capable of filtering down to very small micron sizes (typically 10–400 microns).
  • Compact Design – Requires less installation space compared to sand or media filters.
  • Durability – Made of corrosion-resistant plastic or polymer materials, suitable for long-term use in harsh water conditions.
  • Self-Cleaning (Automatic Models) – Many disk filters include automatic backwashing systems that use water pressure to separate and clean the discs without manual intervention.
  • Scalability – Available in a wide range of sizes and configurations, from small units for irrigation systems to large units for industrial and municipal applications.
  • Low Maintenance – Discs are reusable and easy to disassemble for manual cleaning when needed.
  • Consistent Flow & Pressure – Provides uniform filtration with minimal pressure loss when properly maintained.
  • Energy Efficient – Requires less pumping energy compared to sand filters due to lower head loss.
  • Versatility – Suitable for filtering organic matter (algae, biofilm) as well as inorganic particles (silt, sand, rust).
  • Long Service Life – Designed for repeated cleaning cycles without losing filtration efficiency.
