A Parabolic Screen (also known as a static screen or wedge wire screen) is a type of mechanical screening device used in wastewater treatment, industrial processes, and solid-liquid separation. It consists of a curved or parabolic-shaped screen panel made from wedge wire, stainless steel, or similar durable materials. The parabolic shape allows influent liquid to flow evenly across the screen surface, where solids are captured and separated from the liquid stream.

The influent passes tangentially over the curved screen, creating a shearing effect that enhances separation efficiency. Solids slide down by gravity into a collection trough, while the filtered liquid flows through the screen openings. Since the device has no moving parts, it operates with low maintenance and high reliability.

Properties of Parabolic Screens

  • Parabolic (curved) design – Provides uniform distribution of flow and effective solid-liquid separation.
  • Static, no moving parts – Ensures simple operation, low maintenance, and long service life.
  • High separation efficiency – Wedge wire profile allows precise slot openings for fine filtration.
  • Self-cleaning action – Flow shearing effect helps prevent clogging and reduces cleaning needs.
  • Gravity-driven operation – No external power required for screening, making it energy-efficient.
  • Robust construction – Typically made of stainless steel or wedge wire for durability and corrosion resistance.
  • Compact and space-saving – Curved design allows a large screening area in a relatively small footprint.
  • Versatile applications – Used in wastewater treatment plants, food processing, pulp & paper, textile, chemical, and other industries.
  • Continuous operation – Can handle continuous flow without interruption.
  • Customizable slot size – Available in different opening sizes depending on the level of screening required.
