A decanter is a mechanical equipment used for the separation of solids and liquids or the separation of liquids with different densities, commonly used in industrial and wastewater treatment processes. It works on the principle of sedimentation and centrifugal force, where heavier solid particles or denser liquids are separated from lighter phases. Decanters are widely used in wastewater treatment plants, chemical industries, food & beverage industries, and oil refineries.

There are two main types:

  • Gravity Decanter – relies on natural settling of solids from liquids.
  • Decanter Centrifuge – uses high rotational speed to accelerate separation, making it suitable for continuous and efficient solid–liquid separation.

Efficient Separation –

separates solids from liquids or two immiscible liquids of different densities.

Continuous Operation –

especially in decanter centrifuges, enabling uninterrupted processing.

High Solid Handling Capacity –

can handle slurries with high solid concentrations.

Compact Design –

requires less space compared to conventional settling tanks.

Low Maintenance –

robust construction and fewer moving parts ensure reliability.

Versatile Applications –

used in wastewater treatment, chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and oil industries.

Adjustable Parameters –

bowl speed, differential speed, and feed rate can be adjusted (in centrifuge type) for optimal separation.

Energy Efficient –

designed to minimize energy consumption while providing high throughput.

Durable Materials –

built with stainless steel or corrosion-resistant alloys for long service life.
